PUDDING MILL LANE - pt.2

(1996 - 2014)

The station had to be relocated because the area it stood on was needed for the new Crossrail (Elizabeth) line.

One might have thought that it was known that the Crossrail line was planned to go through this area but perhaps not. Or perhaps the uncertainty over whether Crossrail would be given the go-ahead, meant that the expensive extra works to divert the line were not justifiable for a new line that had not yet been authorised.

Demolition of the old station was undertaken rapidly after closure.

The last day of service for the old station - 17th April 2014.

The area between the new and old stations had been boarded up for a while, for prepartory work for Crossrail.

The last day of service and the less than reliable lift has already been neglected for a while.

Opening day for the new replacement station and a significant improvement over the old one.

It has been built to cope with football supporters for West Ham's new ground (in the London Stadium, built originally for the 2012 Olympics).

Same view as above but a year and a half later. All traces of the old station have gone.

The concrete enclosure seen here is the covering for the Crossrail tracks as they emerge from the tunnel under the River Lea.
